Father Rodrigo Hurtado denounced a recent break-in at the Chapel of Christ the Savior in Colombia.
Intruders broke into the St. Isidore Parish in Dosquebradas, stole cash and over $1000 worth of valuables. They also took the hosts out of the tabernacle, poured beer over them and stomped on them.
The Diocese of Pereira, where the parish is located, ordered that the Blessed Sacrament be removed and the parish closed. It also said those responsible for the act have incurred excommunication, according to RCN radio.
Diocesan officials said the parish would be re-opened in a month, after a ceremony of reparation, in accord with canon law, takes place.
This is the second time the Chapel of Christ the Savior has been the target of attacks. Four years ago intruders broke the hands off of a statue of the Virgin Mary and stole various objects from the parish.
