The Bishops' Conference of Colombia, together with civic organizations and the mayor of Bogota, are set to celebrate the country's annual Week for Peace next month.
In a statement, the bishops announced that the Week for Peace will be held on Sept. 9-16 to encourage all Colombians to pray and work for peace in the country.
The week-long appeal is an effort to promote and showcase the commitment of the Colombian people to fostering peace, bringing about a political solution to the country’s decades-long civil conflict and redressing the harm suffered by the victims of violence.
This year's Week for Peace will celebrate it's 25th anniversary and will include workshops and conferences to help Colombians seek out ways to resolve conflicts.
The week will open on Sept. 9 at the Cathedral of Bogota with an event organized by the Bishops’ Conference of Colombia and will conclude on Sunday, Sept.16, with a community gathering.
