Archbishop Ricardo Ezzati of Santiago, Chile said the vocation men and women receive from God to devote their entire lives to him demonstrates a love that “goes beyond any merit.”
On Aug. 18, the archbishop celebrated the ordination of seven seminarians to the diaconate and installation of his new auxiliary, Bishop Pedro Ossandon.
“The words of Jesus: 'I have chosen you…You are my friends…You will be my witnesses…' reveal to us that a vocation is a mystery of free choice and love that goes beyond any merit,” Archbishop Ezzati said during his homily.
“Today the Lord calls these seven brothers; he invites them to follow Him, consecrating them as fishers of men and sacramental signs of his saving love,” he added. “What love, what an election, what a gift and what forgiveness and trust are entailed in this call!”
“The Lord has fixed his eyes on you, he loves you, he chooses you and he consecrates you,” he told the deacons and the new bishop.
Archbishop Ezzati noted that the new ordinations and the arrival of the new auxiliary bishop are a “sign of predilection and providential guidance from the Lord.”
