US bishops appoint new director of public affairs

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has announced Judy M. Keane as its new director of the Office of Public Affairs, effective September 12.

Keane brings with her some 20 years of experience managing communications for high profile organizations.

Most recently, she worked as director of media relations and strategic communications for Arizona State University. Previously, she was senior manager of public affairs and communications for Maricopa Integrated Health System, Arizona’s public health care system. She has also served as manager of public affairs and volunteer services at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona.

“Judy brings an impressive wealth of professional experience in communications, I’m confident that she will bring valuable service to the Conference,” said James Rogers, the chief communications officer for the U.S. bishops’ conference.

Keane has also worked as a senior account executive at Martz Public Relations and Advertising Agency, where she helped research and creating marketing and promotional campaigns for clients. In addition, she has been news producer for KTVK, a CNN affiliate in Phoenix.

Keane has a bachelor’s degree in English and Humanities from Arizona State University, as well as a master’s in business administration from the University of Phoenix.
 
She has been involved in humanitarian efforts offering relief to people in Bosnia-Herzegovina refugee camps and worked to write and produce documentaries on the Balkan war refugees. She has also contributed to health publications and Catholic publications.
