During Benedict XVI’s return flight to Rome on Aug. 21, Spain’s ambassador to the Holy See, Maria Jesus Figa, told reporters the Pope was “satisfied and thankful for all the efforts that were made” to make World Youth Day 2011 a success.

Figa said the Pope thought the event was “magnificent” and praised everyone for their work.

The Spanish ambassador said she had the chance to speak with the pontiff on the return flight. She said that he was “very satisfied and thankful for all the efforts that were made.”  She noted that everyone in the papal entourage was pleased with the event.

“There was an atmosphere of satisfaction and closure for a trip that went very well,” Figa said.  She said the Pope’s entourage “was very pleased” with organizers “because they understood that it was not easy” to put on an event of such magnitude.
